LinkedIn outreach reaching the wrong people? Every invitation needs a reason.

Your operator picks each person for a reason. On Signal, we also map your buyers and watch for signs they’re ready.

If your LinkedIn outreach reaches students, tiny firms and people who’ll never buy, the list is the problem, not the message. Lists built from job-title filters find people who could buy, not people who need you this month. The fix is a reason for every invitation, and a written list of who to skip.

SampleSay you sell compliance software to CTOs. A filter finds 400 CTOs at 11 to 50-person companies. Only a few have a deal stuck in security review this month, and those few are your list.

In their words

When outreach goes to the wrong people, buyers notice first:

Completely ignored my ICP - reaching out to 1-2 employee companies.

The lead list would be of a very poor quality, generated in a few minutes using some online scrapers.

The leads they generated were not well-targeted, and many were completely irrelevant to our industry or services.

Why lists fill up with the wrong people

Filters match job titles, not problems. So a list built from filters is mostly people with no reason to answer.

That costs more than wasted invitations. LinkedIn’s help page gives this as one reason it may restrict sending: “Many of your invitations have been ignored, left pending, or marked as spam by the recipients.”

Who you pick moves results more than any wording trick. In Belkins’ 2025 data, reply rates ran from 4.2% to 10.5% by industry alone.

If nobody writes down who was skipped and why, the same wrong people come back next week.

How we’d decide who gets an invitation

Your operator is a GTM engineer on our team. That’s true on every plan, Starter included.

  1. 01

Start from what you sell and who buys it

On the kickoff call we ask what you sell, who buys it and who you never want contacted. We leave those people alone.

  2. 02

    No reason, no invitation

    Your operator

Your operator picks each person for a reason you could check: a post, a job ad, a shared connection. If we can’t say it in one sentence, we skip them.

Why we write down every skip
  3. 03

On Signal, map your buyers into groups

    Your operator

Signal sorts your ideal customers into groups, builds lists in Sales Navigator and watches for buying signals. So we reach people when they show they’re ready.

The buying signals we act on
  4. 04

    Tell us when we’re wrong

If we pick someone you’d never sell to, say so, and we change the rule.

When this won’t fix it

  1. We can only pick as well as we understand your buyer. If you can’t tell us who buys, we’ll pick badly too.

  2. If your market is only a few hundred people, careful picking helps, but the invitations will run out.

  3. On Starter, we work your connections and a normal LinkedIn search, without buyer mapping or signals. If your buyers aren’t in reach that way, Signal is the plan that finds them.

25 minutes with our team.

How will you know who my buyers are?

From you, first: what you sell, who buys it and who to avoid. The free audit also lists 10 warm prospects, so you can see how we pick.

Do you use bought lists or scraping tools?

No. Your operator searches LinkedIn by hand, and on Signal builds lists in Sales Navigator. No bought lists, scraping tools or fake profiles.

Which plan fixes this?

If your buyers are already in your network, Starter. If you need new buyers you don’t know yet, Signal. The free audit ends with the plan we’d pick.

Can you message people I’m already connected to?

Yes, on every plan: messages to your existing connections are part of Starter. In Belkins’ data, messages to existing connections got the highest reply rate, 12.2%.
